Thanks given to Bloom team
SUPPORTERS of Morpeth’s Bloom bid have been congratulated for their success.
As the Herald reported last week, Morpeth was presented with a Silver Gilt award by Britain In Bloom judges as it just missed out on the national Best Town title.
The main partners involved in the entry are Morpeth Town Council, Northumberland County Council, the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre, but dozens of volunteers and community groups also play a part.
At its meeting last week Morpeth Town Council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee thanked them for their efforts and congratulated them on their award.
However, while Mayor Mark Horton said he was pleased with the honour, he had been hoping for more after the town was named Champion of Champions in the regional contest.
“I’m very pleased that we got a Silver Gilt award, but I’m slightly surprised at the result considering the regional result,” he said. “We’ve had a read of the briefing and we’ll take it from there.
“The judges did say they are trying to move away from vast amounts of flowers towards communities and sustainability, but one of the reasons people come to Morpeth is because of the spectacular displays and hanging baskets.”
