CRIME-FIGHTERS in Morpeth have welcomed an experienced officer to lead their team.

Sharon Wilmore-Greaves has been appointed Neighbourhood Sergeant for the area, bringing nearly 20 years’ experience of the Northumbria force to the role.

As well as providing support to Inspector Dave Simpson, she is responsible for managing the Neighbourhood Policing Team of officers, special constables and Community Support Officers (CSOs).

The team also works closely with 24/7 officers and other partners.

One of the first changes introduced by Sgt Wilmore-Greaves has been to re-align the Community Support Officers with a Neighbourhood Beat Manager.

She said: “Towns and villages across the sector will now see more of their neighbourhood team members and will have another point of contact who works closely with the Neighbourhood Officer in their area.”

She added: “I’m keen to hear the concerns of Morpeth’s communities so the neighbourhood team can target local issues and manage expectations.

“Morpeth Neighbourhood Policing Team will provide a highly visible presence in towns and villages, working with the different communities to find out what their concerns are so we can provide a quality service.”

A number of community engagement days are being planned across the sector.

The neighbourhood team consists of PC Paul Dent and CSO Steve Wardle for East Thirston, Red Row, Hadston, Widdrington Station, Widdrington Village, Cresswell and Acklington, PC Mick Leybourne and CSO Matt Leonard for Pegswood, Stobhill and Stannington, PC Dean Rowell and CSO Paul Moorhead for Morpeth town, and PC Andrea Teasdale and CSO Emma Gray for Mitford, Hartburn, Scots Gap, Cambo, Netherwitton and Longhorsley.
