MORE than 40 nursing and technical theatre jobs are being created in Northumberland hospitals.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its operating teams in its Wansbeck, Hexham and North Tyneside general hospitals, as well as recruiting for the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital near Cramlington.
The new roles represent a £70,000 investment in preparation for the opening of the new hospital, which is where emergency surgery will take place from 2015. Planned operations will continue to take place at the general hospitals.
The recruits will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best surgeons in the world in state-of-the-art operating theatres.
Northumbria Healthcare treats more than 40,000 surgical patients every year and operating teams include consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, specialist theatre nurses, operating department practitioners, plaster technicians and surgeons’ assistants.
The roles being created will cover all aspects of surgery, helping patients before, during and after their operations.
Clinical Director of Emergency Surgery and Elective Care Dr Eliot Sykes said: “Now is a very exciting time to join our organisation as we prepare for the opening of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital and the development of our general hospitals as specialised centres of excellence for planned care.”
A recruitment day will take place at Hexham General Hospital’s Education Centre on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm. For further information visit www.northumbria.nhs.uk/theatrenurses
