Trust welcomes lottery milestone

NATURE protectors in Northumberland have welcomed news of a lottery milestone.

The People’s Postcode Lottery has announced that it has now raised £20million for good causes since its launch in 2008.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust has received almost £400,000 from the fund, helping to conserve local wildlife and the natural environment, including dormice, water voles, butterflies, peat bogs, rare grasslands and rockpools.

Chief Executive Mike Pratt said: “We are delighted to hear that the players have raised over £20million – what an unbelievable figure and such positive news at what is a very difficult time for charity funding. Support from the players cannot be under-estimated and we are so very thankful to everyone who plays.

“Wildlife can’t stand up for itself, which is why we have to do it. The invaluable support from People’s Postcode Lottery means that we can get on and do what we do best – conserving wildlife for future generations to enjoy.”

Lottery players also support the People’s Postcode Trust, which awards grants to community groups and charities.
