Vehicle limits must be clarified

VEHICLE restrictions in Morpeth Market Place should be clarified, a councillor has said.

Morpeth Town member Nic Best, who is Chairman of the Markets Partnership, said that present restrictions prevent loading and unloading in the area, but traders are granted permission on market days.

He has now called for more clarity on the issue.

He said: “The bays along the Market Place have, ever since they were put in place, had no loading or unloading all along them. The traffic wardens are exercising sensible discretion on market days and farmers’ market days, but that is discretionary at the moment and is not clear on the signage.

“It is difficult to convince people that markets have a special distinction. It would be helpful to have some clear written rules about vehicles on the Market Place because there are different rules for different people at different times.”
