Warning over computer scam

COMPUTER users have been warned of another scam.

Officers have received reports of an email supposedly sent from the Metropolitan Police ordering people to pay a £100 fine. The email is generated when computer users access unsafe websites.

It causes the computer to freeze and says it can only be unlocked by paying the charge.

However, the police service will never ask for money in this way and no money should be sent. Anyone who receives the message should not respond.

If anyone has already replied they should report it to the police or Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.org.uk

Alternatively, they can telephone 0300 123 2040.
