THERE was a big surprise for a Morpeth schoolgirl when she received a letter from Buckingham Palace.

Nine-year-old Lucy Cunningham, who lives in Lancaster Park, wrote to the Queen in the summer to say how impressed she was with the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic celebrations – particularly Her Majesty’s parachute jump with James Bond.

Now the Morpeth All Saints First School pupil has received a reply from the Queen’s Lady In-Waiting to thank her for her letter and give her some mementoes of the events.

Lucy said: “It was really exciting to get the letter.

“I had just wanted to write to the Queen after the Jubilee and the Olympics and when she did the parachute jump, I thought she was really brave.

“Two of my friends have written to the Queen now to see if they get a letter.”

Her dad Darren said: “It was quite funny because Lucy just came downstairs one day and asked for a stamp because she had written to the Queen.

“She didn’t even tell us what she had written.

“When she got the reply she just started giggling.

“She loves the Royal family and she is obviously over the moon.”
