BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN
BPW (Business and Professional Women) members from across the UK met to renew friendships, learn more about the status of women in 2014 and celebrate summer.
Chris McCurley, of law firm Ben Hoare Bell, spoke of her work in Byker, mostly with victims of abuse, trafficked girls and divorced people losing their children. How her clients are affected by cuts to Legal Aid surprised many and inspired protest.
Sue Ormerod from recruitment firm Nigel Wright spoke of the difficulties women face when rising to the top of their profession and gave tips for success both to women and men. Jo Powell, from unw, spoke of strategy for success and how this applies to the not-for-profit sector.
National President Lyn Everson thanked the speakers and audience. She runs a translation service in Preston and was delighted to receive a tea towel emblazoned with Northumbrian dialect.
