Members turn milk monitors

Kirkley WI

ON a wonderful, sunny June day, some members of Kirkley WI visited David Baynes and his sons and their families at their Marleycote Walls Farm.

They were given information about the animal-led milking shed, where the automated milking machine operates 24 hours a day.

Computer technology means that no animal is over-milked and all milk is monitored for health and safety standards.

The milk is processed and sold to a local dairy and business.

The Ayrshires and Shorthorns are contented cows, all 170 of them.

The members had an excellent visit. They then travelled to Slaley WI for high tea.

The July meeting is the outing to Newby Hall, leaving Ponteland at 9.30am.
