SOME of the world’s most famous comic book characters are exploring the wonders of Wallington.

Dennis the Menace and his trusty side-kick Gnasher have headed to the National Trust-run estate in this week’s issue of The Beano.

The pair are seen climbing Wallington’s 45ft-high Nootka Cypress, which was voted the best tree to climb in the Trust’s national 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11-and-three-quarters campaign, which aims to encourage children to play outdoors and connect with nature.

The comic strip also features National Trust Kids’ Council member Jessica Swales, who nominated the tree as the best climb.

Wallington Events and Promotions Manager Julie Tucker said: “It’s fantastic to see Wallington featured in The Beano. The strip highlights the National Trust’s campaign to reconnect children with nature in such a fun way.”

The comic also features another National Trust property, Gibside, near Gateshead.
