An optometrist in Morpeth has reached his 30th anniversary at R Green and Partners.

After practising in Northumberland and Newcastle for three years following graduation, Kevin Gray joined the business in 1987, a month after his honeymoon.

R Green and Partners was established in the town in 1933 by David Rae and Robert Green came on board shortly afterwards. The name later changed from Rae and Green.

In December 2012, the practice moved from its premises of more than 50 years in Newgate Street into a larger unit in Bridge Street.

Mr Gray, now director of the business, said: “It’s amazing how fast the time goes.

“I’ve seen some patients throughout the 30 years and quite a few patients feel more like friends. We’ve had a number of support staff over that time and I’ve kept in touch with many of them.

“The relocation gave us a substantial increase in space, which enabled us to equip ourselves even better. Hopefully, the practice will continue to do well in the years ahead.”

His wife, Wendy Appleby, joined R Green and Partners three years ago. Her current position is practice manager.

As well as providing eye examinations, it stocks and supplies a range of spectacles and contact lenses – including fashion and designer frames.
