A £1million cash boost has been handed to a council charity to deliver arts, leisure and cultural services across Northumberland.

Active Northumberland will expand from April 1 to provide the full range of Northumberland County Council’s cultural services, including arts and tourism strategy and development, library services, visitor information, strategic events and heritage.

Now it has received a £1million charitable contribution courtesy of profits from the council’s development company Arch, an investment and asset business.

Council Leader Grant Davey said: “This is great news for leisure and cultural services in Northumberland. Through looking at how we provide services through our ‘family’ of companies, we have been able to sustain a good level of investment in leisure, tourism and culture, while reducing the council’s contribution. This is an exciting opportunity and the sort of measure we are able to consider in Northumberland.”
