Morpeth has retained its Best Town title in Northumbria In Bloom for an amazing ninth year running.
The team, including Morpeth Town Council, Northumberland County Council, the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre, picked up the top prize at a special awards ceremony at Newcastle Racecourse this morning.
Town council Clerk and key Bloom team member Gillian Turner also received a special award for Outstanding Contribution to the environmental competition.
And there was more good news for the town as Sanderson Arcade was named joint winner in the Shopping Precinct/Arcade/Business Improvement District category, repeating its success in last year’s contest.
The regional event is part of the RHS Britain In Bloom initiative, which focuses on improvements to local environment quality, community participation and horticultural achievement.
For a full round-up of the awards see this week’s Morpeth Herald, out on Thursday.
