Sophie Hanna, who attends St Robert’s First School in Morpeth, gave her mum a special treat at the weekend as she was the winner of a Sanderson Arcade competition.
Staff were searching for a Mum in a Million to win some very special prizes for Mother’s Day, which included a ChloBo bracelet from Whittakers Jewellers, a year’s gym membership from Healthlands Morpeth, a £50 travel voucher from Thomas Cook and a meal at Barluga.
Sophie, eight, described her mum Ruth as being her best friend, she is always there when she feels sad and gives the best hugs. She even helps Sophie tidy up all her clothes after a long day at work.
Zoe Christopher, assistant manager at Sanderson Arcade, said: “It was a tough decision picking a winner this year and the standard of the entries has been even better than in past years.
“We are so pleased that Sophie was chosen – her entry was beautifully written and we could really see why her mum was a mum in a million.”
Meanwhile, a team from Isos Housing – which has an office in the Arcade – took to spinning bikes to take part in an eight-hour fancy dress charity challenge.
A total of 16 members of staff each cycled for one hour and between them they covered around 160 miles. They raised £527, which will go towards specialist treatment in America for North East boy Frankie Sherwood, who has an aggressive form of cancer.
