Guy Opperman MP recently joined members of the club for lunch at Ponteland Golf Club.

After the meal, he gave a most interesting, informative and amusing talk about his life as a National Hunt jockey, including some of the major injuries which resulted from this ‘hobby’.

He also spoke about his experiences as a barrister, working principally at the criminal bar, his time as a director of his family engineering business, his notable efforts to raise funds for charity and the customs and habits unique to the House of Commons and how MPs adapt to them.

On another occasion, President Peter Lowry awarded Past President Stewart Blair a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his many years of hard work and loyal service.

The club is also making the final arrangements for this year’s Duck Race, scheduled for Sunday, August 31.
