MPS have been given an early glimpse of Northumberland’s newest hospital.

Members Sir Alan Beith, Ian Lavery, Ronnie Campbell and Mary Glindon were given a tour of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital site near Cramlington, a year after building work started.

When the hospital opens next year it will have emergency care consultants on hand 24 hours a day, with specialists working seven days a week and diagnostics within the A&E department to speed up test results.

The building is the largest construction project under way in the region and more than 400 people have worked on site.
