The group’s new President, Jean Coates, has spoken about her aims for her year in the role.

Her theme for the year is Women of Achievement.

She said: “I chose this because I think that all women have achieved something in their lives, either personally or professionally, and my theme gives us a chance to celebrate some of these achievements.

“I hope, as President, to continue to our involvement with the local charities of Cease 24, which supports victims of domestic violence, and Barnabas Safe and Sound, which supports young adults.

“In keeping with Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland’s 3Es project, which reflects ‘Education, Empowerment and Enablement’ for women worldwide, the club will continue to support Educate for Change through which we are financing a young girl’s education in Uganda.

“I firmly believe that education is one of the ways to help women achieve equality and improve their own lives as well as those of their families.”
