NHS: A solution to hospital crisis

editorial image

Most hospital crises, we hear, are allegedly due to the bed-blocking elderly, all well documented.

What puzzles me is why cottage hospitals aren’t reinstated?

They provided a midway house between hospitals and going home.

In Morpeth’s case one could go on the land belonging to County Hall. There’s plenty of hardcore land and utilities are already there. The buildings could be pre-fabricated, very quick to erect.

In the absence of SEN nurses, it could be staffed by trained-up care workers who have left the industry due to feeling overworked, underpaid and messed about, supervised, of course, by a senior NHS nurse or two.

It would only replace the one we had before it became a valuable bit of real estate.

Just a thought.
