Old newspapers brought wartime memories flooding back for pensioner Ena Jamieson.

The Morpeth resident (pictured, right)was having a clear-out at her home in Shields Road, Stobhill, when she came across a bundle of newspapers commemorating the Second World War.

They include replicas of The Daily Express and Daily Mirror from the time.

She said: “I bought them years ago. I was having the upstairs decorated so I was having a clear-out and these were on a cupboard shelf, keeping the shelf clean. It was lovely to see them again.”

The 89-year-old was married to Andrew in 1924 and during the war he served with the 15th Scottish Division in Belgium. After the war, he returned to Morpeth and worked for the council.

Mrs Jamieson can remember soldiers being billeted at Morpeth Camp on the Common during the conflict.
