Residents and staff from a Morpeth care home celebrated winning a prestigious accolade with a special party.

Around 300 staff attended a ceremony for the Helen McArdle Care Recognition Awards, which covered care provision, catering, activities, nursing, housekeeping and management.

Foxton Court, in Loansdean, took home the most coveted award of Care Home of the Year and there was a lifetime achievement award for its manager, Angela Bews.

She said: “To win the Care Home of the Year accolade is fantastic.

“We are all so proud and we believe we have won due to the care and commitment that is shown by the brilliant team at Foxton Court.

“The evening was very special, but we also wanted to share the award with residents and their families, so we held a party to celebrate.”

Throughout November and December 2015, Helen McArdle Care asked residents, family members, healthcare professionals and staff to nominate those that they thought deserved to win an award.

Senior managers at the company then short-listed the nominees down and staff were invited for interviews to determine the winners.

Helen McArdle, chairman and founder of Helen McArdle Care, said: “These awards are very important to me, as they are my way of saying a big thank-you to all of our staff; without their hard work, care and dedication, the business wouldn’t be what it is today.

“This year, we received a record number of nominations from residents, relatives and professionals and I am so proud of each and every member of staff that makes a difference to the lives of our residents.”

As well as offering spacious living accommodation, Foxton Court provides landscaped gardens, set among mature trees, and outside sitting areas for residents.

In February, it received the top score in the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear area for the second year with a score of 990 out of 1,000 in the Your Care Rating Survey conducted by market research organisation Ipsos MORI.
