The new civic head of Northumberland County Council has been elected.
Coun Alan Sambrook from Pegswood becomes the seventh holder of the post since the unitary county authority was formed in April 2009.
In his position, he will carry out many community and ceremonial duties, representing the council at a large number of events in the region.
It is a one-year appointment and he succeeds 2015/16 civic head Kath Nisbet.
Coun Sambrook said: “It is a great honour to be elected as the new civic head of Northumberland County Council.
“I’m looking forward to the year ahead and to acting as a champion and ambassador for Northumberland and the council.”
The Pegswood ward councillor lost his seat in the 2008 election, but he got it back in the 2013 vote. He is a Pegswood Parish councillor and former leader of the now defunct Castle Morpeth Borough Council.
He held the post of deputy civic head during the previous 12 months.
Coun Sambrook’s chosen charities for the forthcoming year are the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and the Northumberland Scout Association.
During her 12 months in office, former civic head Coun Nisbet raised a total of £10,300 for her chosen charity causes; motor neurone disease and pulmonary fibrosis.
