CALLS for a village to have its own parish council will now be examined in detail by Northumberland County Council.

Jacqui and Dave White launched a petition for the change as Linton has three councillors on the authority it shares with Ellington, which has nine.

As 257 people signed it, 64 per cent of Linton residents eligible to vote, the county council will carry out a community governance review of the area.

Mrs White has received guidance from her local MP, Sir Alan Beith, and support from Berwick-upon-Tweed candidate Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

She said: “I’m grateful to everyone who signed the petition and I will regularly contact the county council to find out how the review is progressing.”
