A LETTER has been sent from 10 Downing Street acknowledging the Herald’s flood scheme petition.

Almost 4,000 people signed up to our campaign to fight for flood defences in the coming budget, while local pupils wrote 145 letters to show their support.

They were all presented to Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery to take to London, with copies for Environment Agency Chairman Lord Smith, Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Secretary of State for the Environment Caroline Spelman.

This week we received a letter from Downing Street, saying the petition has been received and is receiving attention.
