Poppy seeds are being handed out by a Morpeth church as a symbol of remembrance.

St George’s United Reformed Church is offering the seeds in the hope that poppies will bloom around August 4, 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.

Red poppies have become a symbol of remembrance of those who died in war, while white poppies are a symbol of peace. Minister Ron Forster is asking people to plant the seeds in pots then take the poppies back to the church for display in late July.
