The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland over the next week, from Monday to Sunday, June 14.
Alnwick: The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge.Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.
Roadworks are also planned for the A1 further south.
Lamesley to Swalwell: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, at Lobley Hill from Monday until Thursday, June 4. A diversion will be in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016. A1M, junction 62 Durham to junction 63 Chester-le-Street: The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for resurfacing work between junctions 63 and 62 until Monday, June 15, apart from on Wednesday, June 10. A clearly-signed diversion will be in place.
Planned roadworks could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
