The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks during next week (from Sunday, January 25, to Sunday, February 1) on the A1 in Northumberland.

Seaton Burn Interchange, Cramlington: Junction improvement – work to improve the interchange will be ongoing until mid-February. Phases of night time lane closures and some slip-road closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am. Lane 1 will be closed between 8am and 6pm on Sunday, January 25, and there will be full closures of the northbound carriageway and northbound exit slip overnight between 8pm and 6am between January 26 and 30. A 50mph speed restriction will be in place throughout the works.

Newton Low Hall to Old Felton: Resurfacing work – the southbound carriageway will be closed with a 24-hour contra-flow on the north bound carriageway. A 50mph speed restriction will be in operation. The works will take place until Sunday, January 25.

Smeafield, Belford: Drainage work – there will be daytime traffic signals north and southbound between 8am and 6pm. The works will take place until mid-February.

Conundrum Farm to Scottish Border: Resurfacing work – there will be night-time convoy working between 8pm and 6am, and daytime lane closure between 6am and 8pm. The works will take place until mid-February.

Tritlington to Earsdon: Technology work – there will be traffic signals north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. There will also be a 40mph speed limit in place 24 hours a day. The works will take place until mid-February.

Newton on the Moor to West Cawledge: Inspection work – there will be a lane closure southbound between 8am and 6pm. The works will take place on Monday, January 26.

Further south:

Coalhouse to Swalwell Interchanges, Newcastle/Gateshead Western Bypass: Major upgrading work – there are 24-hour narrow lanes, contraflow and a 40mph speed restriction currently in place. There are also night-time lane closures in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. Further phases of carriageway closures, lane closures and contraflow will be ongoing until spring 2016.

This summary of new and ongoing road improvements was correct as of yesterday (January 23) but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. The Highways Agency says improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
