The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland and other trunk roads in the region over the next week, from tomorrow until Sunday, June 21.

Northumberland

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland: The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.

Elsewhere in the North East

A19 Silverlink to Wallsend, North Tyneside: The southbound exit slip road and northbound entry slip road at the Silverlink junction will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for maintenance work from Tuesday until Friday. There will also be a lane closure on the southbound carriageway. The project is due to be completed July 15, and a diversion will be in place.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1M Junction 63 Chester-le-Street to 62 Durham: The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for resurfacing work between junctions 63 and 62 tomorrow. A clearly-signed diversion will be in place. Lane closures will also be in place 24 hours a day on the southbound carriageway between Tuesday and Monday, June 22, with traffic using the hard shoulder and a contraflow system on the northbound carriageway instead.

A66 Long Newton to Teesside Park: Sections of the A66 between Long Newton to Teesside Park will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Friday, June 12, until Friday, July 3, while work takes place to paint new road markings, white lines and replace reflective road studs. Only one section will be closed at any one time, and clearly-signed diversions will be in place.
