Residents in Stobhill will be sprouting green fingers as they dig into free gardening sessions.

Groundwork is offering the weekly activities to help plant up new raised beds at Stobhill Community Centre in Ninth Avenue.

Participants will learn all about composting, caring for plants and growing their own, and there will be plenty of take-home seeds and plants to get them started on their own gardens.

Project Officer James Stafford said: “We have put these raised beds in and the idea is that we will get them planted up at the same time as people learn a little bit more about growing their own vegetables and flowers.

“The sessions are open to everybody, but we would like children to come with an adult.

“This is part of ongoing improvements we are making in Stobhill, working with the community.”

Local county councillor Ian Lindley said: “We are very pleased that James is leading these fun sessions in Stobhill. I have learned loads just preparing for them.

“I hope that plenty of people come along and help improve the area, grow some vegetables or plants to take away and learn from Groundwork’s expertise.”

The sessions take place at the community centre every Monday, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. No booking is required and people can attend as many as they like.
