Police appeal after heating oil theft

Heating oil has been stolen from a property in Longhirst.

The theft took place between 10.30am on Sunday and 10.30am on Tuesday.

Anyone with information should call Northumbria Police on 101, quoting reference 337 050116.

The force has also reminded residents of the following steps to help prevent fuel thefts:

• install dusk to dawn security lighting;

• use a wooden fence, trellis or wall to provide protection to the fuel tank;

• keep gates closed and locked where possible;

• install an alarm that can send alerts to a mobile phone if the oil level drops dramatically.
