POLICE are appealing for information following a fire at a house in Ponteland.
The property on Cheviot View was unoccupied at the time. A neighbour saw the flames in a study room downstairs and alerted the fire service at about 10.30pm on Monday.
Two fire appliances and police cars went to the two-storey detached home and firefighters put out the blaze.
The neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I looked out of my kitchen window and saw flames in one of the downstairs rooms next door.
“I knew the householders were out so I asked my wife to phone the fire brigade. They arrived quickly along with the police and put the fire out.
“It was lucky that I saw the fire when I did or it could have spread and caused a nasty situation.”
The fire is being treated as suspicious and anyone with information can contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043043.
