Police appeal after serious assault outside train station

A man was seriously assaulted at the weekend outside Morpeth Railway Station.

Police were informed about the incident at 1.15am on Sunday morning, although it is believed that it actually took place between 12.45am and 1am on a small footpath that runs between Coopies Lane and Kingswell.

Emergency services attended and a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is currently described as stable.

Inquiries into the assault are on-going and a 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail.

But detectives investigating the assault are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

Officers believe a number of people may have been in the area at the time.
