Survey findings indicate desire for more parking restrictions in Northumberland tourist hotspot

More than four-fifths (83%) of people also believe the current parking situation is unsustainable.
The preliminary findings of a survey carried out by Bamburgh Parish Council were discussed at its December meeting.

Hide AdIt was also recently revealed there was an 85% increase in visitors to its main car park in September compared to the same period in 2019.
Cllr Andrew Bardgett, vice chairman, said: “I’ve always thought that some time-limited parking was a sensible thing to do so that people can get to the shops rather than people parking there all day.
"The survey is still open for a few weeks so we’ll have to wait and see what the final result is.”
Cllr John Mackey said the majority of respondents so far appeared to be permanent residents.

Hide AdIt was hoped that more second home owners would respond over the festive period.
Cllr Kirsty Dobson said: “We’ve had a good amount of responses with some really interesting comments. It’s open until January 25 so we might get a few more responses in over Christmas. We then need to summarise the findings and present them.”
Meanwhile, councillors were told that Northumberland County Council plans to introduce seasonal double yellow lines on The Wynding before Easter.
Parking restrictions on the road, one of the main access points to the beach, have been proposed for some time.
