FARMERS who are missing out on funding have been urged to contact a Northumberland MP.
Berwick Member Sir Alan Beith, whose constituency covers the area north of Morpeth, is keen to hear from local farmers who have not received their Single Farm Payment from the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).
Payments began to be made on December 1, but Sir Alan wants to monitor the success of the administration of the scheme as previously farmers have had to wait months, or even years, for their money, and last year heavy European Commission fines were imposed due to regulations not being correctly applied during processing.
Sir Alan said: “Many farmers rely on their Single Farm Payment to keep them farming, producing food and protecting our countryside.
“Our farmers are the stewards of our landscape and making them wait months and years for the payment is wrong. I want to help any farmer in the constituency who feels that they have had to wait too long to receive their payment.”
Farmers can contact the MP on 01665 602901.
