MORPETH’S MP has shown his support for an arthritis charity at a special event.
Ian Lavery was among the guests who attended the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society’s (NRAS’s) third Healthcare Champions Awards at the Speaker’s House, House of Commons.
He spoke to NRAS Chief Executive Ailsa Bosworth about priorities for the sector, including Government proposals to create a Quality Standard status for the disease.
This will promote best practice and enhance treatment and support services for people living with the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.
The MP for Wansbeck said: “These awards are a terrific achievement for those working in the rheumatoid arthritis field.
“I was very pleased to be able to attend the ceremony to show my support and raise awareness for a serious auto-immune disease that is frequently misunderstood by the public.”
He added: “I look forward to working with NRAS to campaign for further, much needed, improvements to the quality of care offered to the 580,000 people in England living with rheumatoid arthritis.”
