Northumbrian Lib Dem Julie Pörksen has secured a debate on post-16 transport at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference this afternoon in Glasgow.
An amendment to the policy motion Protecting Public Services and Making Them Work For You - Extend the statutory obligation for free school transport to ensure that young people are able to access free state education to age 18 has been selected for debate.
Before the debate Julie said: “It’s great news that the campaign against Northumberland’s Labour council’s outrageous charges for school transport I started back at Christmas has been taken to the national level by the Liberal Democrats. We have achieved so much for school children in Government with policies like the Pupil Premium. I believe access to free state education to age 18 is a fundamental human right and I want free transport to age 18 to be guaranteed by the Government.”
