A dedicated volunteer has been honoured for his efforts to support those who are deaf or have hearing loss in parts of Northumberland.
Dennis Roulstone was recently presented with an Action on Hearing Loss Regional Passion in Action Award to recognise his tireless commitment to running Hear to Help meeting groups and information stands, including at the Northumberland County Blind Association headquarters in Morpeth, as well as his campaigning work for the charity.
He and other volunteers help people with a hearing loss to make the most of their hearing aids and provide information about useful equipment and services.
The 66-year-old, a retired miner who suffered from industrial hearing loss from his 20s, said: “Volunteering with Action on Hearing Loss is tremendously rewarding and enjoyable, and it’s great to be able to help improve the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people.
“I really appreciate winning this award and am happy I have helped such a worthwhile charity make a real difference to the people of Morpeth and surrounding areas.”
The charity, which also runs specialist care homes across the UK, is currently seeking volunteers for its groups, information activities and fund-raising events.
