MORPETH’S most prestigious trophy has been put to good use in a fund-raising initiative.

Morpeth Flood Action Group (MFAG) Chairman Alan Bell used the cup he won as Townsperson of Morpeth in this year’s Civic Awards to draw the winners of his organisation’s 100 Club.

This month’s first prize of £30 was won by Joyce Scott, a staunch MFAG supporter whose home was one of those flooded in 2008.

The second prize of £15 was claimed by Pamela Cassells.

Membership of the club costs £1 a month, with 50 percent of the proceeds going out as prize money.

It aims to help MFAG fund its lobbying activities for the implementation of a flood alleviation scheme and fair insurance.

The next draw is on Monday, June 11.
