Staff at Age UK Northumberland are making sure everybody nose about their support from Comic Relief.

For a shiny, round, red plaque, echoing the charity’s iconic red nose, has been unveiled at their headquarters in Ashington to mark the contribution Comic Relief has made to their Money Go Round project.

The scheme works in partnership with the South East Northumberland Credit Union, Northumberland Community Development Network and Wansbeck Citizens’ Advice Bureau to help people over the age of 55 maximise their income and combat financial distress.

Comic Relief awarded the initiative £250,000 over three years, and after just 18 months, 1,296 people had been helped by the project.

It also saw more than £1million gained in increased welfare benefits, 750 people helped to manage money better online and in the home, and people given advocacy support for financial problems.

The plaque has been placed at Age UK Northumberland’s Roundhouse.

This project has made such a difference to people’s lives.

Tracy Collins, Age UK Northumberland Head of Service Development.

Head of Service Development Tracy Collins said: “This project has made such a difference to people’s lives, with older people telling us they now worry less about paying their bills and turning the heating on when they feel cold.”
