The three-way traffic lights on the A197 outside the former Morpeth Cottage Hospital will be in place until tomorrow, then again from Monday until next Friday, November 25.
The developer of a new housing scheme is carrying out essential sewer connection work.
Off peak working (9am-3.30pm) is not possible due to the depth of the trench, as side supports are required that will not allow for road plates to be used to open the road to traffic at the end of each day.
This means that the lights must also be left in place overnight.
However, Northumberland County Council has ensured that they are being removed by the contractor over the weekend to avoid delays in getting to various town events, including the activities and switching on of the Christmas Lights at Sanderson Arcade on Saturday.
