MEMBERS of Kirkley WI remembered two remarkable women at their March meeting.
Vice President Liz Shaw gave the eulogy to Eleanor Findley, a founder member who died in her 99th year. Eleanor had attended the February meeting, greeting others with her calm presence and wisdom.
The speaker was Marion Anderson, who spoke about another North Eastern woman whose life is soon to be recorded in a film, Gertrude Bell, who spent her early life in Washington New Hall. She travelled widely, learnt many Middle Eastern languages and advised the British Government and other countries.
Margaret Neil gave the vote of thanks. The competition for an ancient mode of transport was won by Betty Renwick.
In April, members will turn their hand to pottery painting.
