Road re-opens after crash

A SECTION of the A1 at Morpeth has re-opened following a crash this morning.

At 11.28am, police received a report of an incident involving two cars on the road just before the southbound turn off into the town, which is opposite the northbound A697 turn off to Heighley Gate and Longhorsley.

One vehicle was in the central reservation and the other in the nearside lane. The northbound lane remained open while the southbound lane was closed and diversions put in place.

The road remained closed for three and three quarter hours for clearance and collision investigation.

The vehicles involved were a Renault Clio and a Citroen DS3. Three people – a man and two women – have been taken to the RVI hospital in Newcastle. It is not believed that their injuries are life threatening.

Anyone with any information which could help police with their enquiries into the collision should contact officers on the 101 non-emergency number.
