Fire brigades were called when the roof of a house in Ponteland was struck by lightning on Sunday evening.

The property in Avondale Road, Darras Hall, was hit at about 7pm. Crews from the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service went to the house and firefighters put out the fire.

They then removed and cut back the tiles that were damaged and dampened the structure. No-one was injured.
