PARENTS, pupils and staff are gearing up for a golden celebration as Abbeyfields First School marks its 50th anniversary.
On July 14 there will be a Golden Garden Party, with a marquee, strawberry tea and dancing from the decades, while a commemorative brochure, recipe book and goody bag of badges, bookmarks, key rings and mugs are also being put together.
Deputy Headteacher Sheelagh Halliford said: “This is an exciting time for the school and we have already started talking to pupils about the past and what they imagine the future might be, both for the school and society.
“We’ve had some people coming forward with information, but we would certainly welcome contributions from those who have photos to lend us, information to add to our history, anecdotes to share and recipes from a particular time for the book.
“It would also be nice for former pupils to let us know where they are and what they are doing so that we can do an alumni map.”
Other activities include a sponsored run and a 50/50 club is being formed to raise money for school projects.
