NORTHUMBERLAND County Council has joined forces with nine other North East local authorities to try to recruit more foster carers.
They have produced a radio campaign, which is currently being aired on three regional stations, as the Fostering Network estimates that 400 new foster families need to be found in the area over the next 12 months to avoid a crisis.
County Executive Member for Children and Young People Lesley Rickerby said: “It is encouraging to see local authorities in the North East with the same goal, coming together to encourage more people to foster in the region.
“As a local authority foster carer, you will become part of a professional team with a wide support network. You will receive financial support and training to guide you through your journey, as well as experiencing the emotional rewards that being a foster carer brings.”
In Northumberland, the authority looks after around 250 children and young people at any one time. But with more children coming into care, extra adoptive parents are required to meet their needs.
