AN SOS has gone out for lollipop men and women across Northumberland.
Northumberland County Council is looking to fill vacancies for school crossing patrol posts at schools across the county.
The authority aims to promote walking and cycling for school journeys to reduce car usage and parking problems around schools wherever possible through the Safer Routes to School initiative.
Crossing patrols are seen as a vital part of the scheme’s success, providing assurance to parents and carers that children will be safe on their journeys.
The role is paid and uniforms are provided.
Successful applicants will be given full training, both at the roadside and in the classroom, and will receive ongoing support from the council, no matter where the patrols are based.
A criminal records check and medical assessment is required for the post.
