A team that runs activities for young people in a number of towns and villages, including Ponteland, has achieved further success.
At the North East Youth Work Awards ceremony in Sunderland, the county council’s West Northumberland youth service collected the accolade for best youth team.
This follows on from Ashley Brown winning the youth work manager of the year award last year and Sarah Wood, from the same team, collecting the youth worker of the year honour.
Mr Brown, the service’s senior area youth worker, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the whole of West Northumberland youth service have been recognised with this award.
“They are consistently excellent in the activities and support they give to young people in a large rural area and I am very proud of them all.”
Youth Focus North East (formerly the Regional Youth Work Unit) held its annual awards evening to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work and contribution that youth services, projects and youth workers across the region have made over the last 12 months.
Daljit Lally, executive director of well-being and community health services at Northumberland County Council, said: “I’m thrilled that the team has won this award.
“They more than deserve it for the outstanding work they do with young people in the west of Northumberland.”
The activities provided by the service include football sessions, drop-ins, residential experiences, fun trips and enrichment initiatives.
