The Mayor and Town Council will be leading Morpeth’s recognition of Hiroshima Day tomorrow with a short service led by Rev Simon White in the Chantry Peace Garden, starting at 8am.

The internationally-recognised annual Hiroshima Day marks the first atomic bomb use in warfare when it was dropped on the Japanese city on August 6, 1945.

A minute’s silence at 8.15am, the precise time that the bomb exploded, will conclude the service. This will be followed by the distribution of origami cranes as a symbol of hope and peace.
