Single yellow line plan for area near two middle schools

New parking restrictions have been proposed to tackle inconsiderate parking on Mitford Road in Morpeth.

Concerns have been raised by local residents and staff at Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools and Technology Colleges that the actions of some motorists are putting road users, including pupils, at risk due to poor visibility and causing an obstruction to larger vehicles.

As a result, a single yellow line could be introduced on a section of the B6343 on the left hand side as you travel along the street having turned onto it from Newgate Street. It would start next to the area that leads to the Skinnery Footbridge.

This restriction, which would operate between 8.30am and 9.30am and from 2.30pm to 4pm Monday to Friday, would add to the one in place on Dogger Bank.

Morpeth North county councillor David Bawn said: “I would urge local residents to take part in the consultation.

“Parked cars along the stretch of road are causing visibility problems at the start and end of the school day when children are walking to and from the middle schools.”
