BUSINESSMAN Sir John Hall has taken on a new role as President of Northumberland Conservatives.
Sir John, who grew up in Ashington, has endorsed the Party’s campaign for Northumberland County Council elections next May.
He oversaw the development of the Metro Centre and as Chairman of Newcastle United and Newcastle Falcons helped to lead both clubs to the highest levels. Now he will give councillors, candidates and activists the benefit of his experience.
He said: “I believe passionately in the need for us to create more businesses, create more jobs and encourage investment in Northumberland. Northumberland Conservatives have exciting ideas to support businesses that can demonstrate a credible plan to create jobs and wealth for local people.”
Group Leader Peter Jackson said: “It is very encouraging to have the backing of Sir John for our plans to help local businesses. Jobs and prosperity are at the very heart of our plans for running the county council after the next local elections.”
The group says it will create a fund to lend money to businesses, provide active start-up support and allow firms to use empty, non-residential council properties free of charge.
