WORK has begun to change the layout of Staithes Lane to link with a new Morpeth supermarket development.
The programme, which will be carried out in phases, includes widening the thoroughfare, installing a drainage system and putting in bigger kerbs.
Site agent Simon Lowrey, who works for contractor Tolent, said the team was waiting for the Robson and Prescott vets practice to be relocated to Whorral Bank before starting the work.
The changes should take eight to ten weeks to complete. The road along Staithes Lane will be closed to traffic from Monday, August 20, although residents will be able to access their homes via Gas House Lane.
Tolent says it will try to provide alternative parking, but during some aspects of the work this may not be possible.
